Antiarrhythmia drugs for accompanying diseases
Kwak Choong-Hwan

Abstract
Recently, catheter ablation has led to a decrease in the use of pharmacological therapy for supraventricular tachycardias, and ventricular arrhythmias. However, antiarrhythmia drugs are still used frequently to relieve symptoms and reduce relapse rate with atrial fibrillation (AF) and other arrhythmias. AF, in particular, has so many clinical manifestations and pathophysiologic features, that the efficacy of catheter ablation as a primary therapy is limited. Several antiarrhythmia drugs are available for the treatment of AF and new medications are being developed continuously. This chapter discusses AF treatments with antiarrhythmia drugs, based on the recently announced medical treatment recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the American College of Cardiology/the American Heart Association (ACC/AHA).
